Controls Engineer


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design circuit at a circuit board level using software like DipTrace
  • Engineer custom controls drawings (Electrical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Lubrication)
  • Develop PLC and HMI program (Delta Tau knowledge desired)
  • Develop CNC machine programs and HMI screens (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas and others)
  • Support commissioning during the build, start-up, installation, and runoff phases of projects
  • Design and program ladder logic to integrate a CNC machine with various other peripheral equipment, including gauging, material handling, robotics, etc.
  • Design and program all necessary safety features, including customer-specific requirements
  • Start- up and debug all software-related areas of a manufacturing system
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing/installation controls problems
  • Create and maintain thorough and complete documentation of all work performed throughout a project including the capture of as-built redlines
  • Develop/write operating and control manuals
  • Support and provide customer training
  • Maintain effective communication with other project staff, customers, other departments, and outside suppliers
  • Participate in project teams, providing input in SOWs, Timelines and Action Items lists
  • Adhere to AS9100 and other quality standards and all safety standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Experience in circuit board design is a must
  • Must meet ITAR definition of US Person(s)
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, ANSI standards, UL/CE specifications, customer specifications, technical and maintenance manuals, and procedure instructions
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more industrial controls manufacturers is required (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 and/or FANUC Fapt). Significant Delta Tau Power Umac experience is a plus.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (Electrical) is required
  • Ability to read, interpret and develop electrical and fluid schematics, electrical drawings, and basic mechanical drawings is required
  • Experience with safety integrated system designs and specifications are required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Excellent time management skills are required
  • MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment drug testing will be required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Customer machine build or systems integrator experience is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more CNC controls manufacturers is preferred (Siemens 840D; Fanuc 31i / 32 i, Hass, Delta Tau).
  • Delta Tau experience is preferred
  • Vision system design and programming is preferred
  • Robotics programming experience is a plus
  • Experience with tool management, drive parameters, and servo drive tuning a plus
  • Experience with PROFIBUS, Ethernet and/or other communication networks a plus
  • Knowledge of Visual Basic and/or C++ is a plus
  • Develop PLC and HMI programs (AB, Siemens, Fanuc etc.) a plus

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking and driving.  Regular exposure to all weather conditions combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.  May be exposed to uncomfortable and/or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed and/or coordinated.  When working on site, may be required to wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, or hard hats.
