Waterjet

Years of research and development have led Meyer Tool into the new and rapidly expanding area of waterjet. This has led to advancements in waterjet hole drilling, hole shaping, surface preparation, coating removal, and many more specialized capabilities. Meyer Tool can assist you with any turbine-related waterjet needs.

The Aerospace and Gas Turbine Industries have long needed a process that can machine hot section components that have a non-conductive coating. Waterjet is a great solution for precision drilling, cutting, and coating removal on these component types.

Meyer Tool has 6-Axis movement on all waterjet machines. Combine these machines with the powerful inspection capabilities already in use at Meyer Tool, and any application is possible.

Precision Waterjet Processes:

Cutting

We have cut as thick as 22″ thick carbon steel and as thin as 0.005″ thick Hastalloy X. We can cut simple, flat plate, but also the complex, awkward 3-D shapes of the aerospace industry. We can cut a variety of materials and parts: composites, high-temp alloys, ceramics, coated parts, lab samples, and many more.

Stripping/Milling

We have stripped diffusion coatings (including the diffusion layer) from gas turbine components. We are able to surface mill to a specified depth, even on complicated geometries. Cracks on worn components can be virtually erased with the waterjet process.

Surface Prep

  • We have a rotary nozzle water-only process that is able to clean or prepare surfaces

Hole Drilling

  • Hole diameters as small as 0.013″ to as large as 0.060″ or more
  • Depths can reach several inches, dependent on hole size, taper allowance, and material
  • Ceramic coatings with varying thicknesses can easily be drilled through
  • Possible angles range from 30° – 90° from surface
  • Full 6-Axis CNC movement
  • Small to large work envelopes (up to 10′ L x 6′ W x 3′ H)
  • Accurate tolerances as small as ±0.001″ on diameter
  • True position as low as 0.010″ on existing parts
  • Vision machine correlation
  • Taper as small as 0.001″ or less for thinner materials
